A new chapter for 21C Skills Lab and CORE Education

MEDIA RELEASE

CORE Education adopts two new innovative programmes to support teachers in preparing students for the new era of work

11 May

An announcement today marks the start of a new chapter for CORE Education who have adopted two new innovative programmes designed to support students to thrive in the new era of work.

Both the Like a Boss Programme (L.A.B) and the Edternships Programme were created by 21C Skills Lab to enable educators across Aotearoa and help young people build skills for the 21st Century.

The two nonprofit organisations have a shared vision for the future of education and are committed to helping teachers facilitate transformative learning experiences by bringing the ‘real-world’ into the classroom.

The programmes will join a wide range of world-class professional learning solutions at CORE Education in line with their mission to help transform education and contribute to an equitable and thriving Aotearoa through learning.

“CORE is excited to continue the fantastic work of 21C Skills Lab through these impactful programmes. We already know Like a Boss and Edternships make a positive difference for both rangatahi and educators in connecting them with the new era of work. They align beautifully with CORE’s kaupapa to transform communities through boundary-pushing initiatives in Aotearoa” says Dr Hana O’Regan, CORE’s Tumu Whakarae (Chief Executive).

The L.A.B Programme is a free ten-module programme designed for educators to help Year 7 - 10 students create their own business for good and develop skills including creativity, communication and financial literacy.

L.A.B was modelled from FYA’s $20 Boss and since launching three years ago it has been run in over two hundred schools and organisations throughout Aotearoa.

The Edternships Programme connects school and industry by taking teachers on a five-day journey within a NZ business to gain real-world insights and design a learning experience for their students.

Edternships was co-designed by 21C Skills Lab and Stanford d.school in collaboration with New Zealand teachers, businesses and students.

The programme piloted last year partnering teachers with leading businesses including Spark, Xero and Google.

“Our vision has always been for all young New Zealanders to have the knowledge and skills to succeed in a rapidly changing world of work” says 21C Skills Lab Co-Founder Faye Langdon.

“With CORE’s national reach and scale, we know that L.A.B and Edternships will continue to grow and enable educators and rangatahi across Aotearoa.”

The programmes are set to transition from 21C Skills Lab to CORE Education this term and a full roll-out is planned for 2022.
